This raw footage of my visit to the Halema'uma'u lava lake was recorded in the early morning of September 16, 2011. Halema'uma'u is a pit crater located on the south end of the Kilauea caldera on the the Island of Hawaii. The Halema'uma'u crater is approximately 2500 feet in diameter. The lava lake featured in this video is 250 feet below the floor of Halema'uma'u and is approximately 500 feet ...

This short clip - don't blink, you'll miss it - is accelerated 32 times to show lava lake circulation in the Pu'u 'O'o volcanic vent in the East Rift Zone of the Kilauea volcano.

Pu'u 'O'o is a volcanic vent on the East Rift Zone of the Kilauea Volcano on the island of Hawai'i. Pu'u 'O'o and areas within a mile of this vent have been steadily erupting lava since 1983. In this visit, I watched as the lava lake rose over 30 feet (?) during a 12 hour visit.

This is a view into the the throat of a volcanic vent located on the floor of the Halema'uma'u pit crater. Halema'uma'u is located on the south end of the floor of the Kilauea Caldera on the island of Hawai'i.
